TSDC Advertising Policy - An Overview
by Big Daddy Dave
At the TSDC there exists an advertising
policy that deals with placing ads in the newsletter, microphone announcements,
and distribution of flyers.
Free Membership Advertising Table
As
a courtesy, the Club provides a table in the lobby of the Women's Club
for every member to advertise at no cost. The material must be reviewed
and deemed presentable by the President and/or Vice President. Not included
in this service are free announcements and newsletter ads.
Non-Profit Organizations
The
policy is slanted towards non-profit organizations similar to us, e.g.
San Diego Swing Dance Club. The money generated by these organizations
usually goes back into their membership funds and helps with operation
expenses for the members. We are generous towards these organizations,
and will advertise for their particular event at will. There is the understanding
that if TSDC advertises for them, then they will advertise for us. TSDC
will provide space in the TSDC Information Center for flyers and newsletters,
make announcements, and allow publishing in the TSDC newsletter at no cost.
These organizations help us at their end with similar courtesies.
For-Profit Organizations
TSDC spends a good portion of membership funds for advertising the Club in the various newspapers in and around Tucson. Also, the cost of publishing a Club newsletter is one of the major expenditures each month for the TSDC, all for the purpose of recruiting and maintaining the membership roster. The Club sells ad space whenever it can and provides announcements to offset the costs of staying in business.
For-profit organizations (dance studios, dance instructors, dance groups, hotels, dance pubs, etc.) see our Club as a perfect scenario for advertising a particular event, which makes perfect sense.
In the past, these groups were able to advertise at no cost through TSDC with announcements and flyers. Piles of flyers were set up and taken down by the Club for up to months at a time, again at no cost. Ads in the Club newsletter were not purchased in every case. These organizations would make a profit while the Club received nothing for the part it provided. Therefore, a policy was created to treat each and every for-profit organization in a fair and similar fashion. The policy attempts to make it a two way street and opens up an opportunity for business deliberations between the parties involved. Advertisers are encouraged to use the Club's newsletter with the purchase of ad space at a very reasonable cost. The Club, in turn, will provide announcements and take care of any flyers as a courtesy. The Club reaches out further by stating if the advertiser does not want to purchase an ad, a meeting with the Board of Directors is encouraged for business deliberations, which might include discounts for the membership, advertising for the club, etc. Either way, the Club is always open to advertisers! Let's negotiate and talk business! Bring the idea to the table and discuss what is good for the advertiser, and what is good for the membership of the TSDC. A copy of the detailed policy is posted in the TSDC Information Center.
